The city of Ariel was busy busy busy during the Hanukkah Holiday!
So many activities to choose from: Children's Hanukkah party with a Clown, a visit to the nearby army post for candle lighting with the soldiers, Adults Hanukah party as well as the Ulpan Hanukah party! On Sunday morning the Ariel Aliyah children arrived at Ohel Efrym Shul (headed by Rabbi Maizles from South Africa) for the Children's Hanukkah party. The program coordinators had organized a Clown performance as well as a "Make your own Hanukiah" and doughnuts for everyone afterwards. The Clown performance was great – she spoke both English and Hebrew to the Children. They danced to Hanukah songs, played games and had a fun time. After an hour of games and dancing, the children began painting and sticking the Hanukiot and Dreidels and gave the Shul a general makeover… To end the party, each child got to take home their Hanukiah and Dreidel, a Clay Oil Jug and a very large doughnut! |

A Bowling and Pizza Night Out took place Thursday the 12th of November, A bus full of excited children and parents left Ariel going straight to Petach Tikva's bowling alley. Arriving at 6 pm, the bowling alley was empty which was a great advantage as we had the place to ourselves.
The kids were having a blast! The manager raised the children's bumpers and brought out a little slide so even the smallest children could send the ball straight down the alley. David Moshkovitz won the kid’s game and scored over 100! He left many of the adults way behind too…… Shauli Zacks was star of the night with the highest score (after the bus driver…..) while Yuval was the fastest bowler, managing to send a few balls flying at 25 km/hr straight down the gutter. After a few strikes everyone had a break to nosh some pizza, and then continued to finish off the first match. It was almost impossible to tear the kids away and we all had to promise we would return again soon. It seems we have found a favorite activity for the Ariel Olim!! |

The city of Ariel took part of the Aliyah fair in South Africa during the month of October. This was the second Aliayh fair this year and you could defiantly see the change and the growing interest of the South African community in the absorption options in Ariel. With a good location, reasonable housing prices and a great community the city booth attracted many people. Some already garneted there arrivals during the month of December to Ariel. The short video recorded during the New Year BBQ gave the visitors at the Aliyah fair a chance to see really what is going on in the English speaking community of Ariel.
Followed by the growing interest in Ariel the new Shaliach to Johannesburg Mr. Shimon Shamila visited Ariel on Thursday the 29th of October. After a meeting with Mayor Ron Nachman, Mr. Shamila was taken around the city by aliyah coordinator Reuven Franks. Succot day trip to the Shomron: During Hol Hamoed Succot the English speaking Ariel community organized a day trip to the north of the Shomron. The trip was organized by a group of the new olim together with some local Israeli families that are very involved with the English speaking community of Ariel.
This trip symbolizes the essence of the communal aliyah program - a group of olim and Israelis planning together a trip during a Jewish holiday to visit and see the area of Ariel and feel what Aliyah, Ariel and Israel are all about! It is also important to mention that the whole trip was planned and organized completely independently by the olim themselves! The trip began with a visit to the vineyard in Yitzhar where everyone got a chance to have a glass of organic wine. Then the trip went on to the main attraction the Shomronim which included a tour of their museum and Succah which has a whole roof (sechach) made of fruit. The tour continued to Itamar in to the organic farms where you were able to buy goat's milk products and organic products. |
